Ernest “Ernie” Lapierre

July 21, 1957 — February 14, 2023

Ernest “Ernie” Lapierre, 65, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, passed away February 14, 2023, at home, peacefully after a battle with cancer.  He was born in Woonsocket, RI to Aram Lapierre and Noella (LaFlash) Lapierre on July 21, 1957.

Ernie was a commercial shell fisherman for over 30 years. He loved rod and reel as well as fly fishing, hunting, and archery.  He loved working outdoors improving his home, building many types of gardens for his wife, chicken coops, sheds, and a beautiful deck for everyone’s enjoyment.  Ernie loved taking his grandchildren trout fishing, and often shared his fishing skills with young folks trying so hard to catch one.  Ernie’s hobbies included yard sailing, buying coins, restoring fishing poles, and of course smoking cigars.  He was also famous for making the best French fries in town!!

Ernie was a devoted husband, “father”, grandfather, and friend. He loved it when friends and family visited and sat around the fire pits sharing love and laughter. He will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cherie (Jones) Lapierre; David and Ashley Steele of Providence, RI, Sandra Jones of South Attleboro, MA, Shawn Steele and Sadie Devlin of Tampa, FL. Grandchildren: Aram Steele, Lilyana Steele, Leighla Steele, Ava Steele, Ana Devlin, Shawn Joseph Steele Jr.  Siblings: Arthur Lapierre, Jonny Lapierre, Billy Lapierre, Marie Porter, Pauline Burdick, Theresa Lapierre, June Kelly, Noella Boucher as well as beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, being held at The Cumberland Public Safety Union Hall, 7 Cray Street, Cumberland RI 02864 on Saturday February 25, 2023 from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m.  His wishes were for family and friends to come and celebrate his life, eat good food and share loving stories with each other.
