With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anita (McEvoy) Plumb, 95, on July 2nd. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Plumb, and is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. Susla, son-in-law Jeffrey J. Susla, son Richard A. Plumb, daughter-in-law Deborah Plumb, grandsons Jonathan D. Plumb and Jeffrey M. Plumb, step-granddaughter Brigitte Tiano, and great-granddaughter Dani M. Plumb.
Anita was born on June 20,1930 in Jamaica, VT, the daughter of John McEvoy and Ruby (Burgess) McEvoy, and lived in Newfane, VT until moving to West Brookfield, MA in her early teens. Newfane always remained a special place for her, full of many happy memories of growing up in a quaint village. She was able to return there often, sometimes with her daughter, and sometimes with her longtime childhood friend. Later in life, Anita moved to Springfield, MA where she worked and raised a family. Always a loving and guiding force for her children, she taught them many of life’s lessons for which they are eternally grateful. She exemplified the value of having a positive attitude and fun-loving nature. A good joke was never wasted on her and thoroughly enjoyed.
Anita earned her Associate’s degree from Gaugh School of Business in Springfield, MA. She went on to work in the accounting departments of several businesses that include Monsanto, Diamond Match, Hampden Candy & Tobacco, and Baybank. Never one to remain idle, upon retirement she took part-time jobs at Lederer’s Bakery and Kiley Junior High School. One of her favorite pastimes was what she described as “playing in the dirt” tending to her lawn, shrubs, and plants. She loved being outdoors. Knitting was another activity that brought her pleasure with many of her creations donated to charities, an example of her kindness and thoughtful nature. In her later years she was able to travel both domestically and internationally visiting London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Ireland. An avid word-puzzle solver, she engaged in this activity until very recently.
Anita’s family would like to thank the many caregivers at The Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton, MA who provided kindness and support during her last years.
As per her wishes, services will be private.
