Bernard James Hogarty Jr., lovingly known as Bernie, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, in Westborough, Massachusetts, at the age of 73. Born on July 4, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, Bernie brought light and joy to all who knew him throughout his remarkable life.
Bernie was a man of deep faith and unwavering devotion to God. He raised his family in the nurturing community of St. Luke’s Church in Hudson, Massachusetts, where his spiritual foundation flourished. In his later years, he found solace and connection at Greater Grace Church alongside his daughter Michele. His faith was not just a personal journey but a guiding force that shaped his relationships and inspired those around him.
A talented musician with a passion for life’s simple joys, Bernie found immense pleasure in playing the mandolin, banjo, harmonica, and guitar. His love for music was matched by his enthusiasm for coin collecting—a hobby that reflected his appreciation for history and detail. Bernie’s wit and humor were as vibrant as the melodies he played; he had an infectious joy that left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Above all else, Bernie cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife Susan Hogarty; his daughter Michele Lee Guadagnino-Tutterman and her husband Michael John Tutterman; daughter Angelina Paige Guadagnino; his son Daniel Joseph Hogarty and Daniel's wife Christina Hogarty; their children Jayden Hogarty, Ayden Hogarty, and Kiersten Hogarty; his son Joseph Adam Hogarty; and his daughter Kathryn Ann Breto and her husband Ricardo Breto. Bernie also leaves behind his beloved sister Darlene Franco and her husband Al Franco along with their children Jennifer Beaudoin (and her husband Jeff Beaudoin), Jeffrey Franco (and his wife April), George Gregory, and Aubrie Failla (and her husband Michael). Additionally, he is survived by his brother Brad Hogarty.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Bernard James Hogarty Sr. and Jeannette Elizabeth Russell. Their memory lived on through Bernie’s enduring love for family traditions and values.
To those who knew him, Bernie was more than a husband, father, grandfather, brother, or friend—he was a beacon of hope and joy. His heart overflowed with kindness and generosity; he would do anything for anyone without hesitation. His laughter brightened even the darkest days, and his unwavering positivity served as an inspiration to all who crossed paths with him.
May the memory of Bernard James Hogarty Jr. bring comfort to those who loved him deeply. His legacy of faith, love, music, and joy will continue to resonate in the hearts of many for generations to come. A Memorial Service will be held on July 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM at Greater Grace Christian Fellowship 187 Pleasant St. Marlborough MA 01752 (date and time may change).
