Betty W. Sweet

Betty W. Sweet, 75 years old, passed away on December 19, 2022 after a short battle with cancer at Fitchburg Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on August 19, 1947 to Stella Weitz (Knapp) and Lawrence Weitz in Poughkeepsie N.Y.  Betty was married in  Stormville NY in 1968 to Theodore Sweet.  They moved to Allegany County in the Western Southern tier of N.Y. and there Betty ran riding stables, would train and board horses and keep any stray animal that would come her way.  She also played piano for the Baptist church and started her career as an artist painting oil paintings.  She then attended Alfred University in Alfred, NY earning her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in 1980.  She moved to Boston where she started a painting and decorating business called “Creative Painting and Decorating” where she would paint murals and commissioned art, while she continued to paint and show her oil paintings.  She retired to Alka Park in the Catskill Mountains where she started Indian Head Mountain Arts Cultural Center.  Betty would spend the winters in Central Florida and continued her favorite pastime of creating beautiful landscapes and continued to do commissioned artwork and murals.
Betty is survived by her daughter Kimberly D’Amato (Sweet) and her husband Glenn of East Brookfield, MA; two grandsons: David N. Spencer and and Jeffrey A. Spencer Sr.; her great-grandchildren: Cadence K. Spencer of Schenectady N.Y, Jeffrey Spencer Jr. and Adrenna K. Barry (White) and her husband Ryan Barry all of Worcester;  a step granddaughter Jessica A. Mauro (D’Amato) and her husband Christopher and their children: Christopher and Charlotte Mauro all of North Brookfield MA.  Betty is predeceased by her late husband Theodore Sweet, her brother Lawrence Weitz of Cocoa Beach Florida, and a half Brother Charles Weitz of Tribes Hill N.Y.
A celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 14th 2023 at 11:00 am, at Bible Way Baptist Church,  18 Heard St Auburn, MA. Donations can be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter in East Brookfield MA or feed a stray in her honour.
