David Allen Gottesfeld was born on May 9, 1953, in New York City. He departed this world on May 30, 2025, at his home, surrounded by love. Throughout his life, David embodied sweetness, kindness, and an unwavering appreciation for beauty in everything around him. His laughter was contagious, his spirit easy-going, and he approached every moment with a sense of joy and contentment.
David's journey began with a passion for the outdoors, which led him to pursue an education at Paul Smiths College of Forestry in the Adirondacks and later, the City College of New York. David's career journey began as a butcher in New York City, where he first met the love of his life, Judy. His professional path further evolved as he ascended to the role of Senior Principal Engineer for EMC for over 20 years, showcasing his remarkable intellect and skills in software engineering. Followed by a cherished role as a fish ambassador at Wegmans, where he was known and loved by many.
David found solace and exhilaration in the embrace of nature. He loved hiking, fishing, kayaking, and winter camping, often sharing these experiences with his family and friends. One of his proudest accomplishments was conquering the challenging hikes, particularly Mount Rainier, which stand as a testament to his adventurous spirit. His greatest pride, however, remained his family, which he cherished above all.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Judy Gottesfeld, who stood by his side through thick and thin, and their two daughters, Alison Richards and Erica Ankstitus, along with their devoted husbands, Jared Richards and Ryan Ankstitus. David also took immense joy in his role as ‘popsie’ to Leah, Evan, Nora, and Zachary, whose lives he positively influenced with his warmth and love.
In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his brother, Gary Gottesfeld; sister-in-law, Janice Gottesfeld; brother-in-law, Michael Zucker; sister-in-law, Miriam Zucker; and stepsister, Elaine Kessel. Each of these relationships was an integral part of his life’s tapestry.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a profound appreciation for life. His memory will live on in the countless moments spent outdoors, in the tales shared with loved ones, and in the laughter that echoes through the hearts of his family and friends.
