Dwight Gifford Davis, aged 77, passed away on September 18, 2024, in Lunenburg, Massachusetts after being diagnosed with melanoma last year. Born on June 9, 1947, Dwight spent his formative years in the area, graduating from Fitchburg Public High School in 1965. He met the love of his life, Judith Perkins at Stop’n Shop where he was a bag boy and they were married May 5, 1967. Following high school, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970.
Professionally, Dwight was a skilled tool and die maker. His career began at Barkley and Dexter in Fitchburg during his high school years and spanned several decades, including positions at Tucker Housewares, Foster Grant in Leominster, and Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard. He continued his craft at various small machine shops in the area until his retirement in 2019.
Dwight was a member of St. Paul's Church in Gardner, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Chapel of All Saints in Leominster, Massachusetts prior to joining St. Paul’s Church. His faith was an important aspect of his life, and he participated in church activities throughout the years.
Dwight cherished his time living on Lake Whalom. He enjoyed boating, waterskiing, and fishing, particularly after the lake was stocked each spring. Dwight was also deeply involved in environmental conservation, dedicating many hours to managing the lake's dam to regulate water levels. His love for building extended to his home, where he constructed wall partitions, decks, sheds, and made many other improvements. Through his life, Dwight donated blood which totaled in the gallons. He also donated platelets at Brigham and Women’s Hospital when Judie had appointments.
Dwight leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Judith (Perkins) Davis, his daughters Kelly Harvey (Russell) of Maine, Jennifer Stevenson (Kelly) of Florida, Tiffany Wrobel (Kenny) of Massachusetts, and his son Peter Davis (Stacey) of Tennessee. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Russell R. Davis, and cousin, Gail (Pike) Tracy (Alvah). Dwight was predeceased by his parents, Russell K. and Greta (Hocquard) Davis.
The family would like to thank Mark and Joanne Zrate for their loving care of Dwight in his final days at home.
A church service to honor Dwight's life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 79 Cross Street, Gardner, with the family receiving visitors before the service, beginning at 11:00 am.
