Eugene V. Randall age 71 of Wales, MA passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on April 18, 2026. Gene was born to Nancy P. and Donald W. Randall in Newton MA on October 6, 1954.
He was educated in the Union 61 school system before starting a lifelong career in the automotive industry. Gene was an ASE certified mechanic working in General Motors dealerships throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts before establishing his own business, The Livery, located in Wales, MA in 1980.
Gene was exceptionally well read and held vast knowledge in many areas as well as a deep interest in history. He loved all things mechanical especially motorcycles and muscle cars but also had a love for all things nautical and aeronautical, maintaining a membership at Mystic Seaport for many years. As a young man, he enjoyed sailing and flying airplanes with his father. Gene was a great friend with a booming personality and always maintained a love of children, dogs, and music of all kinds. In his youth he was a member of the Wales Fire Department and later held several political offices, proudly serving the community he loved so well.
He met his wife of 50 years, Janna Thompson Randall, in 1970 in Greenwich, CT where they married at St. Mary’s church on September 18, 1976.
Gene was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife Janna and their two sons: Evan, his wife Jill and daughter Adeline; and Peter and Samantha Cox and their children Derek and Hailey. He is also survived by his siblings: Cynthia (Cindy) Randall, Lawrence (Petey) Randall and wife Bonnie, Melissa (Mel) Purvis and husband Chris, Rebecca (Becky) Smith, and half-sister Cindy Fields and husband Chuck as well as his beloved nieces and nephews: Joshua, Samantha, Katherine, Timothy and Charlotte. Gene’s love for his family and friends was unconditional and unwavering. If you never experienced a Gene Randall bear hug, you missed out.
A church service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 2:00 p.m-4:00 p.m. at the Wales Baptist Church, 24 Main Street, Wales, MA.
A celebration of Gene’s life and impact on others will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Gene would want you all to be sure to tell your family and friends how much you love them.
