Leonard C., Jr., fondly known as Len or Lenny, passed away peacefully on September 9 2024, in Spencer, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 26, 1952, in, Massachusetts, Len lived a life marked by devotion to his family, an unwavering faith, and a passion for history.
Len was a dedicated machinist, having served at Worcester Controls and Lowell Corporation in West Boylston before retiring in 2014. His work ethic and craftsmanship were evidence of his commitment to quality and service in his profession.
Len was deeply involved in his community and shared his love for music as a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps, The Notables, during his youth. He experienced the joy of creating music and the camaraderie it brought. In addition to his musical pursuits, he honored history through his participation as a Civil War reenactor with the 4th Alabama and 15th Mass Volunteer Regiment, where he could immerse himself in the tales of valor and duty he cherished.
Len was known for his warm personality; his infectious smile could brighten any room. He was an avid traveler, enjoying memorable trips to Maine, where he delighted in walking along the beach and sitting on the rocks at Nubble Lighthouse. His adventures at Disney World were equally joyful, as he embraced each ride with the wonder of a child experiencing it for the first time.
A devout member of Greenville Baptist Church in Rochdale, Len loved the Lord and cherished the community of his church family. His commitment extended beyond worship; he served as a commander in the Royal Rangers at the First Assembly Church, teaching young boys how to camp, tie knots, and achieve badges while fostering a love for the Lord.
Len's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Lynn M. (Moir) Beard, and their children: son Jason L. Beard and his wife Nina R. (Gruber) Beard of Brookfield, Massachusetts, and daughter Jennifer L. Beard and her husband Jason R. Fitzpatrick of Columbia, Tennessee. Len also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren—Victoria L. Beard-Fitzpatrick, Timothy A. Beard, Bradford L. Beard-Fitzpatrick, Colin N. Beard, Ireland R. Fitzpatrick, and Inara J. Beard—and a great-grandson, Xander Zapata. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his extended family of four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
Len was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard C. Beard, Sr. and Virginia H. (Randall) Beard, as well as his brother, Alan R. Beard.
His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched—through his love, laughter, and the life lessons he shared with generations. Leonard C. Beard, Jr. will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who lived his life with purpose and joy.
