Lucille Bow of Leicester, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home from old age. We are forever grateful for our mom. She loved us.
Lucille was born in Fall River, the only child of Emma St. Pierre and Adelard Chouinard, and later settled in Worcester.
She attended St. Ann’s Academy in Marlborough, where she received a senior diploma in music at the age of 14. This was the first time in the school’s history that such an award was given to someone so young. She was offered a full scholarship to study music at Anna Maria College but chose to give it to someone else who would use it. She said she didn’t want to be a teacher. After graduating from Fisher Junior College, she worked as a secretary at Heald Machinery and later for several physicians at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, where she remained until her retirement.
Mom’s curiosity and interest in learning new things never waned. She kept busy and had a wide range of interests that included drawing, painting, rug hooking, knitting, crocheting, flea markets, refinishing furniture, gardening, reading, traveling, and playing games with her lifelong group of friends, who called themselves “the hens.” She even went back to school, taking courses on subjects that fascinated her.
She loved volunteering and spent time at the Leicester Library, the Worcester Public Library, and the Leicester Senior Center, where she helped by driving people to their doctor’s appointments.
There was always a book nearby and a puzzle spread out on the dining room table. She loved taking pictures. Thanks to her, we are very well documented.
She is survived by her children, Jeffery W. Bow of Leicester, Cynthia M. Bow of Easthampton, and Kevin R. Bow of Leicester; her grandchildren, Kyle Bow and Krystal Entwistle; and four great-grandchildren; her cousin Jeannette and her family of New Hampshire; her cousins, the Bells; and her lifelong friend, Gayle, with whom she shared many laughs.
Jeff was her main caregiver during the later years of her life. She was well cared for. We loved her very much.
Mom never wanted to stop. There was always something to do, right up until the week before she passed.
We would not have been able to keep Mom at home if not for Notre Dame Hospice, as well as “the Margarets” and their team, who loved and cared for Mom as if she were their own. We are so grateful for their consistent and dignified care. We would also like to thank Worcester Elder Services for providing meals, house cleaning, and resources.
Throughout the summers, her bay window was filled with vases of flowers, which she absolutely loved. However, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Hospice. We don’t know what we would have done without them. A service will be held at Comfort Cremations 1027 Main St. Worcester Ma Saturday Jan 31st starting at 1:30.
