Robert “Bobby” T. Sweeney

Robert (Bobby) T. Sweeney passed away on April 9, 2022. A loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son and friend, Bobby’s love of life, charm and charisma were undeniable. He was a born storyteller and drew everyone’s attention in each room that he entered. A big man with an even bigger heart, he will be sorely missed by every life he touched.

Bobby began his career as a correctional officer for the Commonwealth in 2001, and recently found his calling in his role with the Employee Assistance Unit. He excelled in his advocacy and was profoundly proud of his work there supporting both the employees and their families in any and every way that he could. Bobby found such fulfillment in this new position and it aptly suited his compassionate nature.

Another source of pride for Bobby was his service in the Marine Corps and the enduring relationships that resulted from his time in the Corps. His “brothers in arms” were indeed his second family and family was everything to Bobby as both a blessing to him and a responsibility he took on gladly and fiercely.

Bobby delighted in his nephews, Liam and Thatcher and they, in return, adored and reveled in their time with their Uncle Bobby. Whether he was introducing them to the music of Johnny Cash or taking them both to pick out their Halloween costumes and more recently, just hanging out together, they never failed to have the time of their lives with him.

The true loves of Bobby’s life were his wife, Melanie, and their daughter, Shea. He loved his time spent with his two girls – playing in the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, napping, or impromptu dance parties (always started by Bobby). He knew how to melt Melanie’s heart with a romantic card and adapted to the life of being a “girl dad” quickly and completely. Bobby was in constant awe of Shea and incredibly grateful for the life he had with the two of them.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Bobby is survived and lovingly remembered by his father, Robert W. Sweeney; his stepfather, Paul Bonneau of Upton, MA; his brother, Michael Sweeney and his wife, Sarah and their children Liam and Thatcher of Uxbridge, MA; his brother, Mark Sweeney and his wife, Amanda and their children, Krista, Emily and Conor, of Upton, MA; his dear friend and brother, Wayne Beckwith and his wife, Tracie, of Southbridge, MA; extended family and so very many friends. Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Bonneau.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
