September 30, 1931 — May 28, 2022

Ruth L. (Goodick) Lyons of Worcester, sadly passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the age of 90.  Ruth was born on September 30, 1931 to the late Adam and Anna (Begonis) Goodick. In, addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her brother Alfred Goodick and her sister Lillian Conway. She is survived by her brother Edward Goodick and her sister Frances Monahan.  She leaves behind two sons, Phillips B. Wood of E. Hampton NY; Ronald Lyons of Middletown RI; and a daughter Patricia A. Petit with her husband Robert K. Petit of Worcester. She also leaves her grandson, Kyle P. Sands of Worcester.

Her grandmother immigrated to America from Lithuania with her husband Adam Begonis in the early 1900’s. Ruth fondly talked of her grandmother, Petrone (Svirskas) Begonis, and she would always mention that her grandmother lived until 100 years old. She also had many memories of her speaking Lithuanian. As a young girl, Ruth enjoyed helping her grandmother dig up potatoes from her garden.

When Ruth was in her twenties, she worked at Heald Machine Company. She was there on the day that the tornado of 1953 went through Heald’s parking lot.  Years later, she worked and retired as a blood bank technician at St. Vincent Hospital on Winthrop Street. After retirement, Ruth also enjoyed working at other places, such as the Price Chopper.

Her passion was antiques and she enjoyed antiquing at various local shops and thrift stores. She could never pass by a yard sale without pulling over to take a look.

Ruth had a love for animals, especially cats. Among the many cats that she had shared her life with over the years, she dearly missed her babies Gypsy and Apple.

Two of her closest friends were Jim of NY and Ann of RI.  She really enjoyed riding the ferry on her recent trips to New York to visit her son Phil and her friend Jim.

She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by her friends and family.

Services for Ruth will be held privately.
